The auction ahead to the 11th season of IPL auction is thought to be a bigger affair than usual, considering that each franchise can keep no more than five players from other existing rosters by through the combination of pre-auction retention and Right to Match (RTM) cards. The teams have until January 4 to submit their retention lists as the BCCI itself can make open public their full set of to-be-auctioned players on January 18, reported by, ESPN Cricinfo
“The minimum spend will be 75 percent of the salary cap for each season,” the BCCI stated. The IPL Regulating Council has hiked the salary budget of the franchises from Rs 66 crore to Rs 80 crore for the auction. Each team will have to spend at least 75 percent of the salary cap (INR 60 crore) by the end of the two-day procedure. Retained players will have a more dynamic effect on the team’s salary purse depending on the number of players retained by the franchise.
