Priyanka Chopra honored with Mother Teresa Memorial Award
Priyanka Chopra was honored with the Mother Teresa Memorial Award. She was recently elected as the Goodwill Ambassador of UNICEF and made headlines for going to Syrian refugees. Angelina Jolie, the Goodwill Ambassador for UNHCR, was first to take up the cause of struggling for the privileges of refugees and displaced people.
On being felicitated at the 13th Mother Teresa Memorial award, she said-
“Thank you, Harmony Foundation. I am truly honored to receive the prestigious Mother Teresa Memorial Awards for social justice. Mother Teresa embodies the values of compassion and kindness, and I am so humble that you deemed me worthy of this award. Meeting refugee children around the world have been both heart-breaking and truly inspiring to me. Despite for being displaced for no fault of their own, these kids are filled with positivity and hope, looking for ways to make the world a better place. I sincerely pray that they fulfill their dreams and ambitions and I truly truly believe, this is something we can help nudge forward, just by extending our hands and support. I am so glad that this year’s theme is ‘Compassion Beyond Borders’ because this is truly what the world needs today. And, I know we normally think that these problems are beyond our reach and there is nothing we can do about it but that’s not true. Here’s a step in the right direction. I, Priyanka Chopra put a challenge forth to the children of India, lend a helping hand to refugee children in Syria, Iraq, South-East Asia, Africa by bringing awareness to the student community in India, and by participating in Harmony Foundation’s initiative child to child connect. Together we can make a difference!”
On receiving the award on behalf of the daughter– Madhu Chopra said, “I humbly accept the award on her behalf. As a mother, I am immensely proud to have a child who is so compassionate and has so much kindness in her. She exemplifies the fact the more you give the more you get. Even as a child, she was influenced by Mother Teresa and has been supporting Prem Niwas in Bareilly.”
“It is justifiable for her to receive this honorable award and I am immensely proud of her. I’m thankful and I’m sure she is humbled that her efforts have been recognized by the foundation that believes in helping the needy and supporting the deprived and raising funds for those who are impoverished,” she adds.
Mother Teresa Memorial Honors was initiated by Tranquility Basis in 2005. This honor ceremony celebrates the initial legacy and global imprint of Mom Teresa since there is absolutely no legacy on earth that speaks distinctively about Mother Teresa of Kolkata.
