WhatsApp is about to roll out new features, including the option for private replies in groups, tap to unblock and a picture-in-picture (PIP) mode as well. The details were leaked by WABetaInfo, which has in the past revealed upcoming features on the app. WABetaInfo says these features are being tested on the beta version of the app, though not absolutely all beta users can easily see this for now.
WABetaInfo has distributed screenshots of the new features. It appears that long pressing on the reply option in group talk opens up other choices, where ‘Reply privately’ is also outlined. This may help cut down on the chaos in group interactions and it will be a lot more convenient for users. Private reply means one will not have to leave the group every time they want a private discussion with someone else on the group.
The PIP setting ensures that the selected training video or a training video chat looks as a new window with what looks like a newer interface from WhatsApp. WhatsApp is also seeking to put in a feature where a customer can just tap on someone’s name to unblock a person. Addititionally there is an ‘Invite via Link’ feature in the group info section to include more users. However, based on the WABetaInfo website, this is option is visible only to group admins.
It also seems that the iOS users might have the choice of group calls soon, WABetaInfo added. Group calling is a feature that might work well for WhatsApp’s audience, considering that it has 1 billion users. Though the call clarity, etc will get sorted in market like India is something that remains to be observed.
WhatsApp also plans to add a new section for Admin Settings, that will have two options: Send messages and Edit group info, notes the web site. We must wait and see how soon these revisions and features would rolled out for users, across Android and iOS.
